Roger C. Kline

Roger C. Kline died in his sleep on March 18, while in London on business. He was a Director and Senior Partner at McKinsey and Company in New York with responsibility for McKinsey's service to a number of its largest global clients, heading up the firm's banking and securities practice. He was previously head of the New York office, McKinsey's largest.

Roger entered Dartmouth from the Bronx High School of Science, where he was a member of the National Honor Society, Student Council, Magazine, and Yearbook. At the College, Roger was a brother in Delta Upsilon, Business Manager of The Dartmouth, and President of the International Association of Students in Economics and Business, while achieving Honors status in the Government Department.

After graduation, he earned J.D. and M.B.A. degrees and a certificate in international relations from Columbia University. Prior to McKinsey, Roger was a NYSE Allied Member and NASD Registered Principal with responsibility for the investment management division of a securities firm. He started and sold one of the first discount brokers in 1976.

Roger was a member of the Council on Foreign Relations, President of U.S. Friends of the Atlantic Partnership, a U.K.-based group that promotes dialogue among European and American opinion-leaders, and served on the Advisory Council of the U.S. Public Company Accounting Oversight Board. He was quoted in, and wrote articles on various topics for, the Wall Street Journal, the American Banker, Fortune, and other journals and periodicals. His philanthropic activities centered on issues of adoption, as Chairman of Whole Child International, and through the Evan B. Donaldson Adoption Institute.

Roger remained an active member of the Class after graduation, serving as Class President from 1966-72, a Newsletter Editor, a member of the Class Executive Committee, and as an agent for the DCF. He is survived by his widow Susan and son Matthew. Services were held on March 24 at Temple Emanu-El, 5th Avenue at 65th Street, in New York. Contributions in Roger's memory may be made to Evan B.
