The Great Class of Dartmouth 1966

Homecoming 2023

Celebrating a great weekend of good fellowship in Hanover.

Our traditional Homecoming Mini Reunion October 20-21 was a great success, despite a steady light rain throughout the weekend. We had record attendance. The following participated in part or all of our events: Chuck Sherman and Margie Carpenter, Mary and Brad Stein, Anne and John Rollins, John Pearson and Cynthia Simeone, Judy and Stan Cola, Sharon and Gary Broughton, Karen and Bob Serenbetz, Margo and Paul Doscher, Marcie and Frank Blod, Barbara and Steve Lanfer, Wally Buschmann, Mary and Mike McConnell, Ed Larner, Anne and Budge Gere, Ken Reiber and Mi Herzog, Myra and Hector Motroni, Bob Cohn, Deb and Alan Rottenberg, Andrea Oseas and Gary Jefferson, Penny and Jeff Gilbert, Kathy and Mark Blanchard, David Hightower, Rick MacMillan and Augusta Petrone and Rick’s brother Jim, Martha and Bob Cowden, Albie MacDonald, and Jo and Al Keiller.

We kicked off the weekend with a pizza, salad, beer and wine supper at Hinman Forum in Rockefeller Hall. Our long standing venue, the Faculty Lounge in the Hop, no longer exists due to major renovations to the Hop. Hinman offered an excellent, open space conducive to greeting old friends and enjoying the pizza and cake. Some braved the rainy weather and headed out for the Parade of Classes, Dartmouth Night speeches and the bonfire. Saturday morning brought more rain, but ten hardy classmates and spouses joined host Linda Fowler on a tour of Pine Park located on acreage that used to be part of the Hanover Country Club at the end of Rope Ferry Road. Our Class is now a sponsor ($5,000 donated in August) for maintaining this popular hiking, walking, and running venue that reaches all the way down to the Connecticut River. At 10:30 Paul and Margo Doscher welcomed everyone to their lovely home in Norwich for our Class meeting and brunch. John Rollins presided over the informative and productive meeting.

Some bravely headed out for the Dartmouth Columbia football game, which the Big Green won by a score of 20-9, in the rain. We gathered at Jesse’s Restaurant on the Hanover-Lebanon border at 7:30 for cocktails followed by dinner Saturday evening. The large Adirondack Room offered ample space for our record crowd. After many years at the Norwich Inn, our new venue proved popular, with high praise for both the food and service. We were delighted to be joined by Scarlette Flores ’24, one of our two Class of 1966 Dean Thaddeus Seymour International Interns at the John Sloan Dickey Center, who spoke about her experience in Peru building and installing wind turbines in rural, indigenous communities. Farah Daredia ’26 from New Hyde Park, NY also joined us. She is one of two Class of 1966 scholars this year. She provided a brief summary of her Dartmouth experience to date—all positive.
